Welcome to the Ranch

Picture
Where it all started....the studio
The Junk Ranch is comprised of an art and design studio, a project workshop and a small antiques shop. The shop showcases great vintage finds, original art and fun re-purposed goods made on the ranch...The Junk Ranch is home base, so to speak.

Ranch Dressing, Handmade and Vintage is the "official" business name associated with sales...it's what the sign on the door reads.

The shop reflects the owners' love of hand-made, artsy, weathered, twiggy, woody, chippy, cottage-y, shabby, leathery, antlers, retro, rusty, cowboy, horsey, kitschy, red, Pendleton blankety, and just plain old...you get the picture...the obsession shared by today's most discriminating "junque collectors"...and designers and decorators of lodges, camps, cottages and vacation homes.

In addition, you will find a nice selection of The Ranch's very own line of hand poured soy candles in the most popular seasonal scents, as well as their signature one-of-a-kind decorative artisan boxes in all sizes. Think of The Ranch at gift giving times for unique presents that will be cherished for years to come.

Ranch Dressing Spring 2011

The story behind The Junk Ranch

Since 1989, Angie Nelson has worked as a floorcloth designer and artist  working under the names, Homeplace Collection and Free Rein Studio. Before her life began as an artist, she worked as an interior designer doing both residential and commercial design in High Point, NC. After nearly 30 years as an artist and designer she made the decision in 2009 to spend the next decade or three flying by the seat of her pants, so the decision to open a handmade and vintage business was the perfect solution!

She made the transition in a little over a year, while documenting the process in a blog, ranch dressing: interior design cowgirl style.

Rick, Angie's husband works in electrical utilities by day, and hunts for treasures on the way home from work and on weekends. He is also a carpenter extraordinaire and built the whole Junk Ranch beginning with the outbuildings, then the studio, the house, the barn and most recently his workshop/hideaway/mancave out back in the woods.

They both love to pick from favorite honey holes, auctions and estate sales. This keeps the inventory fresh and Angie's studio or Rick's workshop well stocked with materials to choose from for new re-purposing projects for their home...or yours. They are enjoying the "junk business" as it's affectionately called, and enjoying the stories about the pieces they collect as well as the ones from customers.  It seems that everyone truly loves a story!

If you have "old stuff" you are ready to part with and think they may be interested in buying please give them a call.
